Check out the Happy Home Cleaning Schedule, a room a day cleaning schedule that allows you to enjoy your home without feeling like you are a slave to it every single weekend or for one VERY long day once a week.

It doesn’t matter if you are a stay-at-home mom, working mom, or anything else! You are busy, and you don’t have time to spend all your days desperately trying to keep up with cleaning and keeping the clutter at bay in your home.

Enjoy your home again!

I want you to enjoy your home again!

Remember that feeling when you first moved in? There was sooooo much space, and you had big dreams.

I don’t want the weight of cleaning and decluttering your home to keep overwhelming you.

I used to be incredibly overwhelmed by my home.  It was a disaster, there was clutter everywhere, and no matter how hard I tried, I could not keep up with it all, let alone the daily tasks.

Dump the clutter first!

First, before I could even begin to feel like I could keep up with the daily tasks required to manage my home, I knew I had to get rid of the clutter.  It was a process, and it took me nearly a full year to finally get my home to exactly where we wanted it.

After the clutter was gone, cleaning my home was a breeze.  In less than an hour a day, I was doing all the tasks required, there was no more clutter, and I had most of my weekends back so I could spend more time with my family.

Now, I spend a little less than 30 minutes a day doing required daily tasks (dishes clean-up, laundry, and general pick-up).  For the other 30 minutes, I focus on one area of my home.  It is my divide and conquer method.

By focusing on different areas of the home on different days, I was eliminating the overwhelm of trying to do it all at once.  Best part, my family started to learn what tasks needed to be done on specific days, and they started pitching in a lot more often! (A mama’s dream come true!)

Here’s how the Happy Home Room a Day Cleaning Schedule works:

Daily Chores

There are daily tasks to complete.  These tasks take anywhere between 15-30 minutes per day.

Chances are, you are trying to do them or are doing them anyway, and adding in another block of time to do your weekly tasks (below) won’t be that big of a deal.

If you get behind one day, it’s not the end of the world. Tomorrow is another day.

Besides, this schedule’s intent is to help you, not stress you out! Some days, mama doesn’t feel like doing dishes.  I get it.  This is me at least one dinner every week.  I simply do them the following morning after taking my much-earned TV break.  😊

AM

  • Unload/load dishwasher
  • Start a load of laundry
  • Make beds

PM

  • Unload/load dishwasher
  • Dry and fold clothes
  • Wipe down kitchen
  • Sweep, if needed

Weekly Chores

The weekly chores include different daily tasks for different rooms.  For these tasks, give yourself 30 minutes.  That’s all.

When first starting out, chances are you won’t fully clean a room in 30 minutes.  That’s OK!

You will be back to the room next week, so don’t stress about it.  Eventually, week over week, you will start seeing BIG changes in the tidiness of the individual rooms.

  • Monday: Living room
  • Tuesday: Bathrooms
  • Wednesday: Kitchen
  • Thursday: Bedrooms
  • Friday: Friday Throwdown
  • Saturday: Spend time doing what you love!
  • Sunday: Planning day and day of rest

Friday Throwdown!

The Friday Throwdown is a rotating schedule of tasks you can complete every week.

Once a month, you will do a deep clean of the kitchen.  Your deep clean task may look different every week, but once a month, your kitchen will get some extra love.

For two of the Friday Throwdowns every month, you can name a room of your choice to clean and declutter.  It’s only 30 minutes, but remember, your momentum builds quickly week over week!

For the final Friday Throwdown of the month, you can do your yearly chore.  This is a specified chore that focuses on one area of the home.  While you can still stick to 30 minutes, I usually spend a little longer on this one, as it is my mini-purge or deep cleaning for a specific area. (Thanks to my Grandmother for this system!)

  • 1st Friday of the month: Kitchen deep clean activity
  • 2nd Friday of the month: Clean and declutter room of choice
  • 3rd Friday of the month: Clean and declutter room of choice
  • 4th Friday of the month: Yearly chore

Yearly Chores

Yearly chores are the stuff we really don’t want to do, and you usually see it on a Spring Cleaning checklist.

Spring Cleaning is great and all, but I don’t want to spend an entire month deep cleaning my house.  I’m all about the divide and conquer method!

Once a month, really dive deep into one area of your home, as outlined below.  Then, you will never have to worry about spring cleaning, as the tasks are completed according to an annual schedule.

  • January: Clean and organize paper files
  • February: Declutter closets (winter)
  • March: Wash curtains
  • April: Clean carpets and furniture
  • May: Clean and organize pantry
  • June: Clean windows
  • July: Clean and organize garage
  • August: Declutter closets (summer)
  • September: Wash walls / touch-up paint
  • October: Clean behind appliances
  • November: Clear out toy clutter
  • December: Declutter seasonal

I loved this! New Year means new cleaning schedule to me! I also like to make sure my carpets are professionally cleaned once a year. My home is so much cleaner and healthier.
