My girls are updating their rooms this month.
They are not little girls anymore, and their spaces are starting to reflect that. A doll here, a poster there, a drawing that no longer has a story attached to it. They have been quietly letting things go on their own, a little at a time, and it has been a little sad (and exciting) to watch.
We saved the favorites: a few loved and worn book series that will get read again someday (or passed on to someone special); lovies are tucked away safely; and little mementos of their childhood that bring them smiles. The things that no longer mean much to them? Those got to move on.
It’s hard to watch, honestly. Not because of the stuff. It’s more that they are turning into little adults right in front of me, and that’s what gives me pause.
The good news is, they are learning something really important now, before they are out on their own: stuff comes and goes, but you get to decide what stays.
This Week’s Tidbits
Here is a roundup of reads worth five minutes of your weekend — simple living, decluttering, and a few practical mom-life finds from around the web.
💸 Selling Your Clutter for Cash (and Teaching Your Kids to Do It Too)
If you or your kids are clearing things out, why not earn from it? This is a great way to make letting go feel rewarding instead of just sad — and a really practical money lesson for kids at the same time.
🏠 When Your Kids Are Ready to Let Go (and You’re Not)
This one is close to my heart this week. If your kids are starting to outgrow their childhood things, this post walks through how to handle the sentimental stuff — for them and for you.
🧺 99 Oddly Specific Things to Declutter Right Now
This one made me laugh. Manuals for appliances you no longer own. Staples that don’t fit your stapler. It’s the kind of list that makes you look around the house completely differently. If you need a nudge to start, this will do it.
🥪 Lunchbox Hacks for Busy Moms
Back-to-school season is coming faster than any of us want to admit. If packing lunches is the bane of your morning existence, this one is worth a read. Simple, practical, real mom-approved.
🍲 Crockpot Freezer Meals for Busy Weeknights
If you are not freezer prepping yet, this might be the post that finally convinces you. Real recipes, real life, and exactly the kind of shortcut that makes weeknights so much more manageable.
What I’m Reading This Month
I picked up Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan this month, and I have to say, I was not expecting to love it as much as I do.
I never read the Percy Jackson series, but my kids love his books, and I wanted in on the fun. It is a modern retelling of the Greek myths narrated by Percy himself — funny, sarcastic, and surprisingly educational. I have learned so much and laughed out loud more than once.
If you have a mythology-curious kid (or you are one yourself), it is a great read.

A Quick Note Before You Go
Simple living is not one big dramatic overhaul. It is a lot of small, ordinary choices that add up over time — one drawer cleared, one lunchbox packed ahead, one book read just for fun.
Whether you are helping your kids let go of the things they have outgrown or finally tackling that one corner of the house that has been bothering you, small steps count. Every single one.
You’ve got this, friend.
