Hate Christmas shopping? Hate the crowds? I now embrace Cyber Monday in all its glory, and I’m going to tell you my best Cyber Monday tips!
For years, I stayed up late and hit up all the shops the day after Thanksgiving. It was a ritual, and I was a die-hard enthusiast.
Then, I got pregnant. Standing in the snow and cold at 6 months pregnant in the middle of the night, having to pee but the store not letting me in, changed how I thought about Black Friday.
I was sick of Black Friday rushing me through my Thanksgiving meal. The deals, while good, were almost not worth the effort. Yet, money was tight, and I had to get gifts to family all over the country, so I needed to save as much money as possible.

Enter Cyber Monday.
Y’all, I LOVE Cyber Monday. I’m a bit of a minimalist, and I advocate not shopping simply for the fun of it, but if you are buying stuff anyway for the people you love, why not save money in the process?
I love it so much that I would clear my work schedule so I could be on the computer all day. When that was no longer possible (because I actually was expected to do work on that day), I started taking the day off every single year.
I could save money, ship for free, and have all my gifts wrapped and shipped weeks before Christmas. I was a shopping superwoman.
Then, I figured out something even more fun. I could make back a decent percentage of my money every year just by shopping online by clicking through a link first with Rakuten.
Holy cow! You mean I get money back on these already insane deals?!
Here’s how you can save money on Christmas shopping and earn money back too! You also get free shipping deals and cheap gift wrap, weeks before Christmas actually comes around, so you look like the organized Christmas shopping guru you are!
Cyber Monday tips for a successful holiday shopping season:
First off, sign up for Rakuten: Get $10 free today!
You guys, Rakuten will save you money, like a lot, over the course of a year. You can earn money back on most of your online shopping.
Go ahead, click on the Rakuten link, and sign up now. You will not regret it!
I earned back hundreds of dollars since signing up, just for buying things online through their links. It links straight up to your PayPal account.
By downloading the extension, it will remind you how much you get back with every shopping website you visit. Now you don’t have to remember.
Trust me, you will forget sometimes without the reminder. They will even search coupon codes for you, so no more googling “Coupon code for XYZ store”.
Next, download the Rakuten app for your smartphone.
Now, when you order something through a website, you get cashback deposited into your account. You can still use any promotional or coupon codes too, so it really does no harm to use it!
Sign up for Amazon Prime (at least for the holiday season)
If you don’t have Amazon Prime yet, you are missing out. Not only do you get free two-day shipping, but you also get access to digital books, magazines, music, movies, tv and so much more.
If you don’t have Amazon Prime , you can sign up for a 30-day free trial today. Use it for your Cyber Monday and other holiday shopping.
If you don’t like it, you can always cancel. I bet you will love it though!
Amazon Prime charges $119 for the year, or you can now sign up for a monthly subscription if dishing out an extra $119 isn’t possible right now.
The monthly Prime subscription is $12.99 per month. Try it out, or just buy it for the holiday season. You will more than save the money with the free shipping, and you get gifts to their recipients early!
Are you a student? You can get Amazon Prime for just $59/year or $6.49 per month.
Hate holiday gift wrapping? Amazon will also wrap most of your gifts for just $3. That sounds like a lot, but it is so easy, and the wrapping is a reusable bag that the recipient can use over and over again. They also look nice under the Christmas tree!
On Cyber Monday, log on to Amazon, and you will be able to see all the lightning deals, crazy good deals on stuff people love! I have given Amazon Alexa type gifts, like the Echo Dot or Amazon Fire Tablet in the past at more than half the cost of what they retail for throughout the year.
Try out Brad’s Deals for Cyber Monday finds
I love Brad’s Deals. It’s like a cheat sheet for all the most amazing deals out there!
You can filter down by categories, and you will get some great intel on the best deals for stuff you may be looking for to check off items on your list!
Take advantage of free shipping on Cyber Monday
Cyber Monday is the best day for free shipping.
Most retailers will offer some form of free shipping over the entire holiday season, but minimums for shipping are lowered or non-existent on Cyber Monday for many retailers.
If you are sending gifts to out of town family, take full advantage!
Even if you are sending gifts to mom’s house down the street, I still love to wrap and ship straight to mom. One less item for you to deal with on Christmas morning and mom gets the anticipation of opening her gift!
Make a plan before Cyber Monday hits
Start getting together your plan for gifts before Cyber Monday gets here. At least have a general idea of the types of gifts you want to get for friends and family.
Make sure to track the gifts you purchase. The deals are sometimes so good, you may get excited and overbuy, busting your budget!
Research Cyber Monday deals
Cyber Monday is such a big deal now that many retailers are releasing their Cyber Monday deals early.
This will help you get a solid idea of what you are looking for and how to best work with your budget for the holiday season. Simply search Cyber Monday deals or Amazon Cyber Monday deals, and you should be able to get a pretty good working plan in order.
Start shopping early
Most of the best deals go early on Cyber Monday. Set an alarm to get up a little early, but at least you won’t have to get up in the middle of the night like Black Friday shoppers!
It also gives you a full day to get the absolute best deals. Amazon will give you a look ahead on their lightning deals, so you can time out your purchases.
Take advantage of retailer gift wrapping
One disadvantage of online Christmas shopping is you cannot wrap the gifts yourself if sending them across the country. (My husband would celebrate this “disadvantage”.)
Taking full advantage of retailer gift wrapping options is one of my favorite Cyber Monday tips.
Many retailers will offer gift wrapping for free or reduced costs on Cyber Monday. Even if they don’t, you are saving big on shipping costs, and for me, it is often worth the approximate $3 to not have to try and wrap presents with little “helping” hands around.
Finish all your shopping before Christmas with these Cyber Monday tips!
No more bustling crowds and craziness with mall visits, wandering from store to store. Knock out all your shopping on Cyber Monday in your PJs (or in secret from your cubicle).
Before you know it, your Christmas shopping will be done and you didn’t have to bump elbows with one single person (well maybe your kids vying for your attention)!
