Gifts for Minimalists: Gift Ideas for Everyone on Your List

October 29 //  by Brooke

If you are shopping for a minimalist, you can use this gift guide for minimalists to find the perfect gifts for anyone on your list.

Clutter tends to build up so easily around the holiday season and birthdays.  I don’t want to be unthankful or a Scrooge, but so often I feel like as a society we give gifts only for the sake of giving them.

I miss the days of homemade gifts with incredible thought, or when we were so poor all we could give was the gift of our time.  These are the gifts that are remembered.

Even if money is no longer an issue when giving gifts, it is often the experiences that the recipient remembers more often than the newest, most expensive technology that doesn’t help us make memories together.

When giving gifts, regardless of your budget, consider giving gifts that are timeless.

Think of memories you can give, a donation of your time, something functional and that will get used regularly. or something you made with your own two hands.

I think that is what I like best about minimalist gifts.  They are timeless.  Minimalist gifts get used.  Or maybe they create memories.

Stop the act of passing on useless clutter.   Use this guide for minimalists gifts to give something the recipient will truly love but not add unnecessarily to the stuff they already own.

Brilliant Minimalist Gifts for Dad That He Will Love!

October 21 //  by Brooke

What kind of gift do you get for the man who has everything already or simply doesn’t want to add more clutter to his home?

It can be hard to think of the perfect minimalist gifts for dads if you are used to traditional shopping and marketing.

Often times, the best gifts for minimalists are experiences, something useful, or something timeless and classic.

Here are some of my best ideas for minimalist gifts for dads:

Experiences (a pricier gift option, but loved!):

Experiences provide a wonderful opportunity to make memories without overfilling the home with more clutter.  That’s why experiences are probably my favorite choice for minimalist gifts for dads.

A guilt-free night out with the guys

Give dad an excuse to get away for a few hours with his buddies, guilt-free.

It could be a round of playing golf, or a night at his favorite hang out.  Offer your driving services if you want to be super nice, or buy him an Uber gift card too!

Ski/snowboard lift tickets (to a special resort you don’t normally visit)

If a Christmas gift, it may be cold where you live.  Consider giving a lift ticket to a special resort.  Better yet, buy yourself one too, and take a day off from your duties to have a fun day together.

Concert tickets

There is always a concert going on.  It could be a local band or a big name.  Give dad a chance to relax and have a night out on the town.

Weekend getaway

Trips are such an amazing gift, as they provide memories over more clutter.

Research a weekend getaway you can take, without having to take any time off from work.  A vacation is perfect when researching minimalists gifts for dads.  Every dad needs a break.

Guitar lessons

I feel like many men want to learn how to play the guitar.  I guess there is a certain allure to it.  Consider giving your man guitar lessons so he can achieve that dream.

Theater play

Many local theater companies put on wonderful plays.  Go explore your local arts district and take in a play.

Gift card to a favorite restaurant and activity

Does dad have a restaurant he is always begging to go to? If so, a gift card to said restaurant and fun activity like bowling may be the perfect night out for the family.

The gift of your time:

Babysitting services for a date

If you want to help a dad out, give him your free babysitting services and let him go on a likely overdue date with his wife.

Babysitting is expensive these days, and it can often make date night too costly.  By offering your free services, a night on the town is a lot less stressful.

A coupon book for tasks you and the kids can do to help dad out

Give dad an opportunity to take a break! This can be a simple or even free gift of services you can offer to do for dad to help him take a break!

Make up a coupon book like the one above, or buy a coupon book if you are not feeling crafty.

His favorite dinner (and a favorite beer or wine to go along with it!)

Sometimes dad just wants to be home and have his favorite meal (that you hate making but he begs for it all the time).

Gather the ingredients and make it special.  If you want to take it a step farther, go buy a special beer or bottle of wine, whatever is dad’s favorite!

Time off to go on a hike or do some other favorite activity

My husband loves it when I take a vacation day just so we can go on a hike or do some other activity together while our kids are at school.

Take advantage of the time your kids may be at school and do something together for one day!

Practical gift ideas:

A minimalist gift for dad can still be an actual gift.  The whole point is to give something that doesn’t add to clutter in the home.

Practical gifts are great minimalist gift ideas, as they are items that will get used on a frequent basis.

Hiking daypack

A hiking daypack is a practical gift that can be multi-purposeful.  We use our daypack for hiking, picnics and as a carry-on for the airport.  The Osprey Tallon 11 Daypack is by far my favorite backpack!  We use it everywhere we go!

Pegboard for garage

Is dad’s garage an absolute disaster? It could be that dad doesn’t have the tools or money to organize everything the way he wants.  Get him a garage pegboard to turn his garage into an organized haven!

Power tools

I don’t know why, but power tools seem to bring absolute joy to dads.  Need a chainsaw? He won’t care that’s his gift.  In fact, he may be so excited that he spends Christmas day chopping down dead trees.

Nice car mats

Car mats are expensive, so many dads won’t spend the money on a nice set of car mats.  However, most will love their functionality.

Yeti products

You guys I just discovered the Yeti coozie (aka Yeti Rambler).  It is by far the greatest invention EVER!!!!

For somewhere around $25, you will give the absolute coolest gift for any beer drinker.

Seriously, these things are amazing.  (Like, kept my beer cold for two hours by the pool in July in South Caroline amazing!) They converted me to a Yeti product lover.

Money clip

A money clip is a great minimalist gift for dad, as it helps him cut down on the need to always carry a wallet.  Dad can clip his one card, a driver’s license, and his cash in this simple clip.

Wireless headphones

Wireless Bluetooth headphones are fantastic and useful.  They allow dad to talk wirelessly without getting all tangled up in a cord. Or maybe a pair of Airpods, brand name or otherwise.

Membership gift ideas:

Car wash membership

Let dad get a car wash every week, guilt-free, especially in the winter months.  It is a wonderfully useful gift that adds zero clutter to your home.  It also forces dad to pick up the trash in his car every week!

Beer or wine club membership

If dad enjoys a good beer or glass of wine, consider getting him a beer or wine club membership.  Keep the goodies coming for a couple of months! It is the gift that keeps giving!

Audible membership

If dad likes to read but rarely has time to do it, consider giving him an Audible membership. Now he can listen to his books on his commute.

Kindle unlimited membership

If dad likes to take the time to read books, consider getting him a Kindle and a Kindle unlimited membership.  Even if doesn’t have a Kindle, he can download the free Kindle app and read from any device.

Unlimited Amazon Music

Give dad the gift of millions of songs he can listen to on any device, anywhere.  Amazon Unlimited Music can transform a gym visit with their already cultivated playlists and no commercials!  It also allows dad to listen off-line, like when flying or when at work without personal wifi access.

Here’s how I save money, shop online, and give gifts with intention:

If you ever shop online, sign up for Rakuten. You are losing money if you are buying online, at any time of the year, and you are not using Rakuten.

All you do is click through Rakuten first, and you automatically get cashback on your online purchases. Sign up today before you do any online shopping!

Better yet, download the Google Chrome extension if using your laptop or desktop or download the app if using your phone. They make it super easy to get cashback.

If you sign up today through my link, you will also get $10 cashback for the first time you use them! That’s free money!

Minimalist gifts for dads

Give dad the perfect, most thoughtful gifts for minimalists.

It doesn’t matter if he is a man who already has everything, there are some great gift ideas you can use to give him a perfect holiday or birthday!

Show dad he is appreciated with these experiences, gifts of your time, practical gifts or membership gifts.

There is something for all dads on your list!

Minimalist Gifts for Moms That Don’t Add to Clutter

October 18 //  by Brooke

Maybe the mom in your life is a minimalist. Or maybe, she is sick of all the clutter in her home. If this is the case, here are my favorite minimalist gifts for moms.

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link, I will earn a small commission but it won’t cost you a penny more)! Read my full disclosure policy.

Minimalist gifts for moms:

1. A really awesome planner

Planners are great minimalist gifts for moms because they are so practical.  Minimalism doesn’t mean you can’t give mom something she will love.  This gift is perfect because she can use it every single day for the next year!

The Living Well Spending Less planner is truly amazing!

I was skeptical at first.  I mean, I had a digital calendar on my computer and a smartphone.  Why on God’s green earth would I go back to 1995 and use pen and paper?!

Well, because it is awesome.  I don’t know how else to describe it.  There is something magical about writing down a task and then crossing it off as DONE!

The Living Well Spending Less Planner has something for everyone.

There are time slots for those that like to follow a schedule every day.  However, you don’t have to use it that way.  Some days I fill in all my appointments by time, other days, I just have a running list.

The absolute best part of the Living Well Spending Less planner? The goal setting pages where you set goals for the year and then month by month and even day by day.

I have never been so productive in my life since getting this planner.  If the woman in your life has big goals, this is a big planner that can help deliver!

Other amazing planners: Erin Condren’s LifePlanner and Law of Attraction Daily Planner.

Don’t forget these useful stocking stuffers, erasable pens and erasable markers! You got that right.  You can erase the ink with these pens!  They are like magic.  I love them.

2-New clothes or a clothing gift card

Once becoming a minimalist or even a quasi-minimalist, you often stop buying clothes for yourself unless you really need them.

When I buy clothes, they are usually very high-quality items that are timeless and will last me forever.

Gift cards for an expensive or specialty item I’ve been wanting from a store would make my day as a mom!

Some ideas of specialty items may be winter clothing or accessories, shoes, a nice purse or wallet, etc.

You don’t want to add to clutter, but it is nice to give a high-quality gift your minimalist mom may have not bought herself otherwise.

Got a tight budget? You can buy name brand clothes on Thredup ($10 coupon included), and they deliver!  Many minimalist moms don’t mind high-quality second-hand goods.

3-A date night

Another fun idea for minimalist gifts for moms, date night!  A fun date night will always do a mama good.

The problem is they can be soooo expensive.  By the time you pay the babysitter, order a pizza for the kids, and head out for a night on the town, you are looking at a pretty expensive couple of hours with the one you love.

I love my husband, but I just can’t afford to drop that much money on a regular basis.

Give the minimalist mom in your life the gift of a night out.  You can buy her an experience or send a dinner and a movie gift card.

Tight on funds? Offer to make dinner and line up a free babysitter with a friend or offer the services yourself so mom and dad can take a night out.

3 – Amazon kindle unlimited subscription

Is mom a book lover? Maybe she prefers to listen to books while commuting to work or while shuttling around town.

The Amazon Kindle Unlimited subscription only costs $9.99/month.

You can cancel it at any time, no contract.  It also comes with a 30-day free trial.   It is also a great ideas when it comes to minimalist gifts for moms because it doesn’t add to book clutter.

Give mom the gift of as many books as she can read or listen to, with no limits!

You also get access to tons of magazines.  Help mom with book clutter, and give her something she can use anywhere, anytime, on any device.  Kindle not required.  However, if you want to get mom a Kindle, they are pretty sweet.  😊

4 – Digital photo frame

Another one of the practical minimalist gifts for moms, as a digital photo frame helps cut the clutter down in a home yet still allows mom to showcase all her favorite photos.

Send my FREE Decluttering Checklist!

5 – Subscription boxes or services – MightyNest, eMeals, etc.

Mighty Nest – As I started to buy less for my home, I also started to explore a more zero-waste home.  However, I had very limited ideas on where to start.  Enter Mighty Nest.

You can sign up for their subscription service, and every month they will send you a box with new items to try to make your home more environmentally safe and healthier.  I’m addicted to so many of their products now.

eMeals – eMeals is my absolute favorite meal planning service.  You are delivered a customized meal plan to your inbox every week, you can link straight up to a grocery pick-up or delivery service, and the recipes are easy and kid-friendly.

The eMeals meal planning service has been an amazing resource for me as a busy, working mom since I signed up nearly ten years ago.

 6 – Grocery Delivery

Sometimes, moms just want a break.  Give her a break with an Instacart gift.  If you have never tried grocery pick-up or grocery delivery, it is life-changing, especially for a busy mom.

Sneak in a Starbucks gift card while you are at it, and she can use that time she would have spent at the grocery store treating herself to something nice.

Amazon Fresh also offers grocery delivery. It is unlimited grocery delivery for $14.99/month.  UNLIMITED!

I am addicted to Amazon, but this takes grocery delivery to a whole new level if you know a mom who needs a serious break.

You can even pair Amazon Fresh with eMeals! I may have died and gone to heaven with this combo!!

7- Barre online membership ($10 off coupon for subscription)

If mom is home during the day and the possibility of getting away to a gym is an unreasonable pipe dream, then consider giving a Barre online membership.

It is extra equipment optional, and it requires only a very small space in your living room.  You can get her a cord that hooks up her phone to the tv (if you don’t have a smart tv) and boom, instant online gym!

Barre workouts are AMAZING.  They are targeted at moms with limited space but who still want a kick-butt workout.  It’s also not as crazy as some of the more intense Beach Body workouts you can stream online.

8 – Consumables delivered

Consumables make the perfect minimalist gifts.  They are super appreciated, something most folks would never spend money on themselves and can be a nice indulgent treat.

9 –Coffee subscription

Mama always needs caffeine to keep her going! Give her the gift of really amazing coffee in a 3-month coffee subscription.

If mom prefers tea, you can also gift a tea sampler.  Throw in a fun, new mug, and you have a pretty awesome minimalist gift for mom that doesn’t add to the clutter.

10 – Membership to a local attraction

If mom has the kids all day or is dying for something more to do with the kids on the weekends, memberships to local attractions are a must!

Don’t worry about giving mom a gift that the kids enjoy too.  Going somewhere like the Children’s Museum or local zoo is a welcome break from a normal day!

11 – Journal with writing prompts or a bullet journal

Bullet journals are a new rage these past few years, and even if mom enjoys a minimalist bullet journal, there are a ton of options out there to help her get started.

Here is a highly recommended bullet journal with a fun cover and easy to set up intro pages.  Throw in some fun pens, and mom is all set for a productive year!

Another idea is a journal with writing prompts.  As a mother, I hope to do a good job passing down our story to our kids, but journals with writing prompts can help make that endeavor so much easier!

12 – Wine delivery

Need I say more?! You had me at “wine” and “delivery”.

13 – Amazon Prime membership

One of my favorite minimalist gifts for mom is an Amazon Prime membership.

If you can afford it, Amazon Prime comes with a hefty amount of benefits, including the famous two-day shipping promise on most goods.

You can get Amazon Prime TV and movies, Amazon Prime music, up to 10 magazine or book downloads from their Prime collection, and more.

I love Amazon Prime.  As a minimalist mom, it helps cut down on the need for buying actual books, CDs, movies, etc.  It comes with so much!!! This is one of my favorite minimalist gifts for moms!

14 – Car care membership

As a simple living mama, I hate to spend the money on washing my car.  However, I absolutely love having a clean car.  Living with kids makes that seem like an impossible, uphill task.

A car care membership can make this impossible task seem attainable!

15 – Minimalist and simple living books

A good book and one I can reference again and again or share with a friend is always a favorite on my list.

Here are some of my favorite minimalist books for moms who are looking to achieve a more clutter-free home or simpler way of living.

The More of Less by Joshua Becker

Stretched Too Thin by Jessica Turner

Minimalist gifts for moms without the clutter!

Looking for minimalist gifts for mom doesn’t have to be torture (or boring!)

You can give mom a nice gift that doesn’t add clutter to the home, even if she says she doesn’t need anything!  Hook mom up with some pretty awesome gifts this holiday season!  She will be ever so grateful!

Budget-friendly Gifts That Cost Zero to Little Money!

October 16 //  by Brooke

Budget-friendly gifts are a necessity for many of us around the holiday season.  I am a fan of not giving gifts just for the sake of giving gifts.  However, if you have special people on your list who you would like to gift something thoughtful but funds are tight, check out these budget-friendly gifts that sometimes don’t cost anything but your time or maybe a few dollars.

This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience (which means if you make a purchase after clicking a link, I will earn a small commission but it won’t cost you a penny more)! Read my full disclosure policy.

Here are my favorite budget-friendly gifts you can give this Christmas season or any time of the year:

1 – Babysitting services

Offer your free babysitting services for a family member or friend. Actually follow through and set a date for them.  This is usually worth at least $50 for a night out! It will be very much appreciated!

Get creative and make a special coupon for the gift!  Not feeling creative? You can buy gift coupons too!

2 – Dinner (and maybe wine) with a recipe binder

Cook dinner for someone you love, maybe a favorite meal you have shared together.  If you want to go crazy and have a few extra bucks, gift them a bottle of wine.

You can also couple it with a print-out of the recipe in a new recipe binder so they can start their own cookbook of favorite ideas.  Even in the days of Pinterest, we still love our old-school, print-out collection of recipes saved in a binder.  It allows us to save magazine recipes, family recipes, or shared recipes from friends.

3 – A special book or adult coloring book

Search a used bookstore or thrift store for a really nice book or cookbook.  You can also check out Thriftbooks.com for good deals.  I’ve found some great book deals at the local Goodwill.  You can also do an adult coloring book and some cheap coloring pencils.

4 – Make something from scrap fabric

Make something from scrap fabric, like a baby doll blanket or rag quilt.

I’ve made these reusable heat packs using scrap fabric and cheap white rice.  They are fun and useful gifts! They are also all natural, and you can add essential oils to make them smell good once heated (just don’t make my mistake and add too much!)

5 – Make a video

Make a video interviewing your kids or friends and family asking what they love about a person.  Edit it, set it to music, and gift it.  It can be as simple as using your smartphone.  Grandma already has everything she needs! Give her something she will cherish and can watch over and over again.

6 – Make a photo album

Buy an old school photo album with the little lines next to the photos (I’ve found these cheapest at Walmart or a pharmacy).  Order your favorite photos and write down your favorite memories next to the pictures.  There are a ton of free photo printing services.  Shutterfly will often send you free 4×6 photos. You just pay the shipping.

7 – Give a special movie

Scour thrift stores for a favorite movie you shared with a person.  Combine it with a bag of microwavable popcorn in a gift bag, and you have a pretty thoughtful gift!  Share your memory of the movie with that person in a sweet note.

8 – A journal

Buy an empty journal.  Write an entry page with your favorite memories about the person.  If you want, you can get a journal with writing prompts.  Sometimes this helps someone share their story when they don’t know where to start!

9 – Alcohol

Buy the wine or beer lover in your life a bottle of wine or 6-pack of good craft beer.  You can get both for under $10.  You can even buy large, individual 22-ounce bottles of really great craft beer at most beer stores.  These are great gifts because many beer drinkers won’t treat themselves to these overpriced specialty beers, but the total cost is often under $10.

10 – A favorite snack

Get your friend a favorite snack with a nice note. I once got my best friend four bags of her favorite kind of potato chips because we were too short on cash that month for anything too crazy.  It shows you pay attention to what they love, and then you shower them in excess!  Not sure what to get? You can never go wrong with chocolate!

11 – Bake something

Bake something for a family member or friend.  It can be anything.  It can be cookies, banana bread, cake, or a pie.  Not a baker? That’s ok.  Pick up a nice pie at the grocery store and stick a bow on it!

12 – A photo gift

Shutterfly and Snapfish send out free gifts almost daily, especially around the holidays.  All you pay is shipping.  Leading up to the months before the holidays, be on the look-out for great deals you can get for super cheap after paying the shipping.  You get even more deals on their apps.

You can also buy a cheap collage frame and fill it up with free photos.

13 – A gourmet treat

TJ Max has amazing deals on gourmet foods.  You can pick up a specialty coffee, tea, jelly, olives, hot sauces, or any other number of things that someone on your list may love.  Many of these items are under $6.

14 – A pretty mug

TJ Max is also a favorite stop for really pretty, oversized mugs.  Many of them can double as a bowl for oatmeal in the office environment. You can pair a cool new mug with a specialty bag of coffee.

15 – A Wallet Ninja

The wallet ninja is a credit card sized multi-tool that fits in a wallet or purse and is no bigger than a credit card.  It is a thoughtful, useful, and budget-friendly gift.

16 – Anything homemade

Do you have woodworking skills? Maybe you could find some free scrap wood from your neighborhood garage sale websites and make something special without spending much cash on materials.  There are a ton of ideas out there in regards to upcycling items, woodworking, sewing crafts. etc.  Look around your garage, outside at natural materials, or in your craft area.  I bet you have something you can repurpose into a thoughtful gift.

One of my favorite homemade gifts to do with kids is a pot holder with handprints using fabric friendly paint.  Preserve their handprints forever with a useful kitchen gift.

Here’s how I save money, shop online, and give gifts with intention:

If you ever shop online, sign up for eBates. You are losing money if you are buying online, at any time of the year, and you are not using eBates. All you do is click through eBates first, and you automatically get cash back on your online purchases. Sign up today before you do any online shopping!

Better yet, download the Google Chrome extension if using your laptop or desktop or download the app if using your phone. They make it super easy to get cash back.

If you sign up today through my link, you will also get $10 cash back for the first time you use them! That’s free money!

Budget-friendly gift ideas for Christmas or any time of the year!

There you have it! Budget-friendly gift ideas for Christmas or any other gift-giving occasion that cost little to no money.  You can be thoughtful over the holidays and still give gifts people will love, cherish, or at least use on a regular basis.  You can also give the gift of your time or your company!  Giving doesn’t have to be expensive or break the bank for three months into the new year.

My kids are obsessed with tic tac toe anytime they can get a chance to play.  Make these for a child in your life. Mom can even carry it around in her purse.  It is a great alternative to giving your child a phone to play with when bored.

4 – Homemade Ice Pack Cover by Dabbles and Babbles

My little ones think a bag of ice can cure any ouchie.  Make them this easy ice pack with a fun fabric.  Make it an extra special gift by throwing in a character set of Band-Aids.  I don’t know why a Snow White Band-Aid makes the smallest cut feel better, but it does!

5 – Homemade Hop Scotch Game by A Girl and a Glue Gun

My kids might lose their minds if I make this for them! We recently moved from the city to the country.  We LOVE our big yard and all the benefits that come from living out in the middle of nowhere.  Yet, we miss our sidewalk chalk on some of our sunny days.  This would totally solve the problem! They could put this on our deck and go to town.

6 – Ice Cream Sundae in a Box by Smashed Peas and Carrots

If my kids got this, they may think they have died and gone to heaven! We rarely eat sweets at our house, and when we do, I rarely buy all the fixings.  Spoil your favorite little kiddo with this awesome gift idea!!!

7 – Homemade Superhero Capes by Happiness is Homemade

Dress-up in so much fun.  Help fuel their imaginations with a homemade superhero cape.  They can go save the world (at least until naptime)!

8 – DIY Felt Stick Horses by Lia Griffith

You guys, these things are at least $28 in the store, and here are the instructions on how to make one easy-peasy as a DIY project.  I love this classic toy, and it will go on the to-make list for this Christmas!

9 – Homemade Hooded Towel by One Simple Bliss

This towel is super cute, and the tutorial walks you through how to make it step-by-step.  My kids are always begging for these, but I hate spending the money.  Get a towel you already own and some nice ribbon (I’m thinking Disney character ribbon in my house), and you have yourself a wonderful new gift!

10 – DIY Photo Memory Match Game by Laura Radniecki

My kids love looking at photo albums.  They also love playing a game of memory.  Why not give them a memory game set that combines the best of both worlds? This idea is genius, and your kids will love it!

11 – Build Your Own Fort Kit by Wit and Wander

Everything you need to build a fort as a child is included in this genius bag of fun.  There is even a free printable tag to help tie your entire gift together.  Love it!

12 – DIY Home Science Kit for Kids by Playdough to Plato

Give the little scientist in your life this homemade science kit.  You can even download a set of cards to give instructions so kids can start experimenting!
